Touching Lives
Ask not what you can do for Africa, but what Africa can do for you.
As we travel through Africa one of our key objectives is to touch lives and be touched by people's lives, for after all this is the soul of Africa. The men and women who are living in those "wish you were here places" who are making a real difference. The people who embody the true spirit of compassion, determination, love...or as we say it here in Africa - ubuntu.
On our journey we intend to seek out these beautiful people - these people who embody the spirit of Africa, whether it simply be in a small kindness they offer a stranger, or a lifelong commitment to a cause that no one recognises. By sharing their stories here, not only do we want to encourage you to seek out the beautiful people who are Africa, but also to share the stories of these people, so that you can touch their lives, like they are touching the lives of others.

People who are truly touching lives

Caine - Much More than a Guide (Mbotyi, Wild Coast, South Africa)
In the beautuiful, off-the-beaten-track area of Mbotyi on the Wild Coast of South Africa, lives Caine. Like in so many areas there are men and women trying to make a difference. Caine is no different in that respect, however he is vastly different in his passion and care for where he lives and the people who come to visit his home. Not only is Caine a volunteer on the Community Policing Forum, because he wants to keep his area crime free, but he is a knowledgeable and caring guide. He leads some of the most fascinating tours you can ever experience from walking trails to horse trails, from hidden waterfalls that the mdoern world does not know about, to cultural tours that are immersive. Caine is making a difference, not only in his own life, but in the lives of his community and in the lives of every visitor who has the pleasure of meeting him. Read our blog experience with Caine or find out more about what he offers here.

Marlene - Living Compassion (Hole in the Wall, Wild Coast, South Africa)
Most of us are so busy - so busy with our own lives, how we can enjoy ourselves, please ourselves, entertain ourselves. And there is Marlene. She lives in paradise - the picturesque village of Hole in the Wall. Yet while this is a wonderful destination for tourists seeking tranquility and beauty, it is also beset with poverty and a huge need - thousands of horses, mules and cows that are poorly cared for. Marlene runs a free clinic every Tuesday for all the locals to bring their animals to be cared for. Yet more than this, Marlene selflessly gives of her own time, energy and money to care for these helpless animals. Read our amazing blog experience with Marlene or find out more about Marlene's Hole in the Wall Horse Project on her Facebook Page here.

Joy, Val, Jennifer - Caring, Growing, Giving (Sedgefield, Western Cape, South Africa)
Joy and friends run one of the most amazing outreach projects we have seen. It's a swap shop that is aimed at children. The children collect recyclable rubbish and exchange it for points that can be redeemed for items. The children are learning to not only care for the environment but also to earn a living, the value of saving and much more. We were truly touched by our experience here - read about it here and see the video. You can also find out more about FreshStart and support their work here.
